Our Breeding Philosophy -- Marsha Boulton, Wally's World ![]() Here at Zahara, our policy is to only breed when we feel the resulting puppies have the potential to better their sire and dam, as well as the breed as a whole. All of our breeding stock is extensively health tested to ensure that all puppies have the best possible chance of living a long and healthy life. All breeding stock is Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certified for hips and elbows. We also Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) test our dogs yearly. In addition, Aussie's will receive the Multi Drug Resistant Gene (MDR1) test and be ASCA DNA profiled; Beagles will be tested for Musladin-Leuke Syndrome (MLS). Typically, we will have a litter no more than once a year, with much care being put into that individual litter. All puppies are raised in our home and are well socialized, have received preliminary vet care and vaccinations, come with a health guarantee, and are sold with a written contract. No puppy will leave our home until they are 12 weeks of age, as we practice the Superstar Dog Program developed by Jerry Hope. Young dogs go through a fear period sometime between 8 and 11 weeks, so we don't feel this is the optimum time for placement. Our puppies are also put through Early Neurological Stimulation and we adhere to the Rule of 7's. We begin conformation training at a very early age. All puppies are exposed to the building blocks of a solid foundation, whether they will go on to be active in competition or a loyal family companion. This includes table time, introduction to leash training, and grooming. Our goal for both the potential new owner and the puppy is to ensure the environment will match the dog's individual needs and therefore create a nurturing home environment. While we strongly support the sport of exhibiting dogs, consideration is always given to individuals offering a home that will first and foremost be seeking a lifetime companion. Receiving a puppy from Zahara is only the beginning of a new adventure. We stay in contact with new owners and encourage frequent and open lines of communication. We want to know how your special little ray of light is doing! We are always available for any type of question, consultation, and training. Consider this the start of a great relationship!
